What is Swedish Relaxation Massage?

Relaxation massage uses five basic massage movements. The aim is to increase blood flow and remove toxins from the muscles. We always work towards the heart. The massage therapist includes these techniques into a flowing massage session. It leaves the patient physically and emotionally relaxed.

What massage techniques are used?

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are:

  1. Effleurage (sliding or gliding).
  2.  Petrissage (kneading to release toxins from the muscles by lifting, separating, and rolling them).
  3. Tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibrate/shake.

What are the benefits of Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage has shown to be helpful to reduce pain, improve joint movement, and function. This was shown in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.

This type of massage has been shown to be helpful in people with poor circulation.

The development of Swedish massage is credited to Per Henrik Ling. Although the Dutch therapist Johan Georg Mezger adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes.

The term “Swedish” massage is not really known in the country of Sweden, where it is called “classic massage”.

Is this type of massage painful?

No the pressure that is maintained throughout the session is deeply relaxing, but not painful. A treatment that is designed to soothe and relax you, not to relieve chronic pain or other underlying ailments.

Can I claim Relaxation Massage on my Private Health?

Yes! All of our massage practitioners are at the minimum Remedial Massage trained and qualified. We have HICAPS for fast claims on the spot for most funds.
